4-H Clubs Receive National Farmers' Day Award


 Six 4-H clubs in 5 districts received national recognition for their outstanding contribution toward the development of Agriculture in Ghana. The schools were awarded in their various districts during the 28th Ghana National Farmers' Day celebration. Every year, first week of November, farmers who distinguished themselves in their various fields of agriculture are awarded for their hard work in feeding the nation.

Larbikrom Junior High School 4-H, Atiwa district; Abomosu Presby Junior High School 4-H, Atiwa district; Saviour Junior High School 4-H, East Akim district; Agotime Junior High School 4-H, Afram Plains; Begoro Islamic Junior High school 4-H, Fanteakwah district; and Korm L/A Junior High School 4-H, Yilo Krobo district  were the schools that received the farmers' day district award in eastern region of Ghana.

Abomosu 4-H cultivated 2 Acres of pioneer maize and Korm 4-H cultivated 3 Acres of Pioneer maize and 1 Acre of vegetables. 4-H members in these districts are teaching farmers in their communities about the planting protocols of the Pioneer Hybrid Maize provided by Pioneer DuPont, USA through Agriserv company, a representative of Pioneer DuPont in Ghana.

4-H award winners were given knapsack sprayers, wellington boots, machetes,  radio sets,  clocks, foot balls and pesticides, fertilizers and certificate of merit.

Issifu Bukari, a member of the Akwee Allah 4-H out of school youth group, in the Afram Plains, received the "Eastern Regional Best Maize Farmer Award"  The group cultivated 26 Acres of Pioneer hybrid maize white variety.

The event which took place on Friday, November 2, 2012 brought together distinguished personalities from the Ghanaian government, private sector, religious and traditional leaders, 4-H Ghana Staff, farmers and general public.
