Sowatey Junior High School to make over 200 Ghana cedis from Lettuce cultivation

Sowatey Junior High School is  located in Suhum, Kraboa and Coaltar district in  eastern region Ghana. There are 50 4-H members in the school. 27 seven are boys and 23 are girls. 4-H Ghana provided them with vegetables seeds from 5 different vegetable families to enable the kids practise crop rotation. Cabbage, carrot and Sweet pepper seedlings were washed by run off water after heavy down pour of rain. only the lettuce survived.  Members constructed furrows and transplanted the lettuce. The crops are doing well and most have attained maturity. Mrs Gifty Torgbenu, the headteacher of the school said that on harvest they will make over 200 Ghana cedis. "It is our first time to engage in vegetable enterprise", she added.
